Sound & feature guide

Wake up to a sound you recognize.

The best alarm sound is noticeable, testable, and appropriate for the reason you set the alarm. AlarmClock.live gives you several ways to choose it.

These three short examples demonstrate synthesized tones. The homepage offers twelve sounds with its own in-app preview picker. Start with a comfortable device volume. Nothing plays automatically.

Built-in alarm sounds

Built-in sounds are the fastest choice and generally the most dependable in a browser. They do not depend on a third-party streaming service or a file remaining available elsewhere on your device.

Choose a sound with enough contrast from your normal environment. A gentle tone may suit a quiet room or a focus timer; a stronger repeating tone may be more appropriate for waking.

Your uploaded audio

Uploads let you use an audio file selected from your device. This can be music you have the right to use, a recorded cue, or another personal sound. The browser handles the file for use in the current experience; you should keep the original file as a backup.

  • Use a file that starts promptly instead of several seconds of silence.
  • Normalize very quiet audio before relying on it.
  • Preview the beginning and confirm it plays through your intended speaker.
  • Do not upload content you do not have permission to use.

Microphone recordings and spoken messages

A spoken alarm can communicate context that a generic beep cannot: “Leave for the airport,” “Start the oven timer,” or “Call the office.” Your browser will request microphone permission when you start recording.

Record in a quiet space, speak clearly, and test the result. A short message is usually easier to understand immediately after waking than a long one.

Clock modes

The available visual modes are more than decorative skins: they offer different ways to read and experience time. Choose the display that is easiest to understand from your desk or sleeping position. The alarm engine and sound choices remain available across clock styles.

Timer, stopwatch, and world clocks

Timer

Use a timer for a duration rather than a specific time of day—cooking, focused work, breaks, or short routines.

Stopwatch

The homepage stopwatch measures elapsed time and supports laps. The standalone stopwatch provides Start, Pause, Resume, and Reset without lap history.

World clocks

World clocks help compare times across locations. Confirm time zones before scheduling a meeting or travel reminder, especially around daylight-saving changes.

Sleep sounds

Sleep sounds are intended to support winding down and can fade out on their own. Keep their volume comfortable and separate from the louder alarm sound you expect to wake you.

Put it into practice

Sound credits and permissions

The built-in homepage alarm library and routine tools use original, programmatically synthesized tone and noise patterns. Birds, coffee, rain, and waves are synthetic sound effects, not third-party field recordings. Browser Web Audio features generate them locally; these built-in sounds require no recording attribution or external audio stream.

Uploaded audio, microphone recordings, and external media links are supplied by the person using those features. Use only material you own or have permission to use. This site does not grant rights to music or recordings from another service. Contact hello@alarmclock.live with sound suggestions or a rights concern.
